MALANG – People of Indonesia have expressed their desire for Iwan Bule to step out from his position as the Head of Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI). This urge is because people think that PSSI has failed to handle the safety situation of Indonesian football matches. Not only that, a number of controversies have become an important note to Indonesian people.
The disciplinary commission of PSSI even gave a sanction to Arema FC. They give a sanction to Arema because of the Kanjuruhan tragedy. For this, Arema is not allowed to hold any match in Malang, they are also fined 250 million Rupiah, and Abdul Haris as a committee is prohibited from any football activity for the rest of his life.
It is so hard for Arema FC which is currently in the state of grieving because they lost 131 lives of their supporters, Aremania in the Kanjuruhan tragedy on 1 October 2022.
Currently, supporters all over Indonesia give their support to Aremania to investigate the case of Kanjuruhan tragedy. Some facts have been discovered by Aremania, The National Commission on Human Rights, The National Police Commission, and Indonesian Government.
For safety affair, Arema FC and Malang Resort Police have sent a letter to PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) on 13 September 2022. The letter contains a request to change the schedule of the match to afternoon. The reason for the request is because the match between Arema FC vs Persebaya usually has high tension. Both supporters have been rivals for a long time. The match still had high tension even though there was no supporter of Persebaya in Kanjuruhan.
But PT LIB answered the letter on 19 September 2022 that the match will remain on schedule because there is a contract with the broadcast rights owner.
“PT LIB asked the match to be held as scheduled. that words marked with bold,” this is stated by The National Police Commission’s commissioner, Wahyurudhato in Malang at the press conference related to Kanjuruhan Tragedy.
For that reason, the public keep asking the head of PSSI to step out from his position. The public also urged the Head of The East Java’s Provincial Police, as the person in charge of safety for the match between Arema FC vs Persebaya on 1 October 2022 to step out from his position as well.
KontraS, the commission for lost people and violence victims, urged the leader of security guards to step out from his position. They think that the Head of The East Java’s Provincial Police has failed to handle the safety of the match.
“No need to long-wind, Head of The East Java’s Provincial Police must apologize and step out from his position, Malang’s Head of County Police has stepped out,” said the President of KontraS, Andi Irfan at the press conference at Malang on Monday (3/10/2022).
According to Andi, the shooting of tear gas and repressive measures are suspected to have occured. Even the FIFA rules related to the security and rescue of victims were also suspected to not be done optimally in the tragedy of the Kanjuruhan Stadium. This later caused 131 lives to be lost.
Based on the information from a number of Aremania gathered by KontraS, Aremania actually entered the field to provide support and strengthen Arema FC players when they were defeated by a rival team, Persebaya Surabaya.
However, it is suspected that the security forces gave an excessive response to make other supporters enter the field. Shots of tear gas were fired, and the disastrous smoke was unstoppable.
“The apparatus should be able to prevent large crowds from entering the field. We have trained police to protect and prevent, not to kill and inflict casualties. Security forces fired tear gas to the stands. There are children, mothers and people who are physically vulnerable. I have no idea what they are aiming for,” he said.
Likewise, the General Chairperson of PSSI, Iwan Bule, received the pressure to resign from his current position. However, Iwan did not even respond to this. He was even afraid that PSSI would be sanctioned by FIFA and the AFC. He is considered shameless and has no empathy for the victims of the tragedy.
