MALANG – The Indonesian National Police have deactivated Police Grand Commissioner Adjutant Ferli Hidayat as Malang’s head of county police and nine members of the mobile brigade corps related to the tragedy of Kanjuruhan. For now, 28 members of the Indonesian National Police are being checked by the special inspectorate due to alleged violations of articles 359 and 360 KUHP about Negligence. This has been stated by the Indonesian National Police’s Head of Public Relations, Police Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, at a press conference that occurred at Malang Resort Police Station, on Monday (3/10/2022).
Besides the 28 police members that have been checked, the special inspectorate also brought 20 witnesses related to the tragedy of Kanjuruhan.
These 20 witnesses include the director of Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB), Head of the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) East Java region, the Chief Executive Committee of Arema FC, and East Java’s Head of youth and sports department.
“From the preliminary hearing, police have increased the status from preliminary investigation to full investigation. Everyone came up and checked, and we’ll get the results by tomorrow (4/10/2022),” said Dedi.
Dedi explained that the witnesses inspection and the results from the preliminary hearing become the consideration to increase this case into full investigation. This inspection is related to the implementation of articles 359 and 360 KUHP. These articles contain mistakes and omissions that cause death and severe injury.
Dadi also said that the number of police members that will be checked can increase with the continuation of the investigation. For now, these 28 police members are being investigated for alleged violations that killed 125 casualties.
“There are chances that the number could increase after the inspection,” he added.
Of these 28 people, including 10 non-active members, there is Police Grand Commissioner Adjutant Ferli Hidayat, former Malang head of county police, and 9 members of the mobile brigade corps.
But, all parties outside the Indonesian government ask for an independent investigation, which means the investigation is not held by the National Police. This is one of the pressures given by KontraS, legal entities, the Islamic power of NU through the Ansor and many others. An independent investigation is expected to be able to open the veil as wide as possible on the tragedy of Kanjuruhan October 1, 2022, that killed 125 casualties and injured hundreds of people.
